Biography
Jamie Crockett was raised by her loving mother, Phyllis Crockett, in East St. Louis, Illinois. Although, conventional wisdom says, “bad news sells,” she wholeheartedly believes good news builds. To that end, she earned an MPA from the MU Truman School of Public Affairs and is currently pursuing an M.A. in strategic communication from her alma mater, the Missouri School of Journalism.
Jamie believes her life’s purpose is to illuminate the work individuals and organizations accomplish in and for the community. Her entrepreneurial venture, Shining Light Media, provides strategic consultation and captures others’ shine through multimedia storytelling.
Her other professional endeavors have included working in state government and nonprofit communications, public radio and most recently, in university media relations. She was a runner up for the Women’s Media Center inaugural Girls State of the Union Address video contest, and was selected as a Student Press Law Center Active Voice fellow.
Jamie loves God and people, and wants others to see themselves in the best light. She enjoys meaningfully connecting in one-on-one and group settings, as well as sharing encouraging messages as a speaker and host for commencement ceremonies, community- and cause-based organizations, writ of passage events and book launches.
